About Robert Alan Henry
Background: Has taught a wide variety of students both children and adults and from beginning levels to the young artist. He has been an adjudicator for various state piano and composition competitions in addition to having given many workshops to teachers on the subject of contemporary and avant-garde music. His compositions have been performed widely including a commissioned work for the 1998 Bumbershoot Fair. He is currently writing music for live-action short subject films.
Qualifications: Received both the Bachelor of Arts and the Master of Arts degrees, with majors in piano and composition, from California State University at Long Beach where he studied composition with Gerald Strang and Donald Andrus. His principal piano studies were with Mae Gilbert Reese of Los Angeles with additional coaching with Peggy Salkind at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Associations: Music Teachers Nationa Association, Seattle and Washington State Music Teachers Associations as well as the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
